LOS ANGELES (June 1, 2016) – McDermott Will & Emery announced today that noted cybersecurity and data privacy litigator Michael Morgan has joined the Firm’s Litigation Practice Group as a partner in the Los Angeles office and co-leader of the Firm’s Privacy and Data Protection practice.
Mr. Morgan was recently recognized as one of the nation’s top cybersecurity lawyers by Cybersecurity Docket. With more than twenty years’ experience in data security and privacy matters, he regularly represents clients in class actions, complex litigation and other matters involving cybersecurity, privacy and protection of consumer and business data. He also advises clients on cyber incident preparation, prevention, and response; compliance with US and EU laws and regulations; completion of enterprise-wide cybersecurity assessments; and data security policies and best practices.

Mr. Morgan is a seasoned trial lawyer who has first-chaired numerous jury and bench trials and has resolved dozens of cases through mediation and other forms of Alternative Dispute Resolution. For over a decade, he has defended a major consumer reporting agency in consumer class actions under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. He has particular depth in the defense of consumer class actions and government investigations by the FTC, CFPB, FCC, and state attorneys general relating to data security and privacy. Before joining his prior firm, Mr. Morgan was Vice President and General Counsel of Epic Cycle, a web app development company.
Mr. Morgan received his JD from the University of California, Los Angeles, and his BS from the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Business. He is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US) by the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP). He is admitted to practice in California, the US Supreme Court, all courts of the state of California, US Courts of Appeals for the Ninth and Tenth Circuits, all US District Courts in California, US District Court for the District of Colorado, and pro hac vice to federal courts in Oregon, Kansas, Hawaii, Utah, Virginia, and Arizona. Mr. Morgan has served for many years on the Board of the LA City College Foundation.
