Tony Maida, from his perspective as former deputy chief of the Office of Inspector General’s administrative and civil remedies branch, said that a new OIG alert warning physicians about reimbursement fraud may not break any new ground, but “is highlighting that the OIG is stepping up its own administrative enforcement of questionable compensation arrangement, specifically on the physician side.” For that reason Mr. Maida warned physicians who become medical directors that “there will be government scrutiny of their arrangement.
