The relator was a Chicago lawyer known for his prolific qui tam tax lawsuits, and Ms. Battin said the court weighed broader policy considerations and potential abusive fee generation. “That’s what we’ve seen in Illinois for all of these years,” she noted. “The relator’s fee requests always seem very trumped up.”
