He advised targets to make demands on the attackers by asking them to decrypt the hacked files and return them to confirm their authenticity before paying, while using a security consultant to see if malicious applications remain that will allow the attacker to return. “You don’t want to receive a program; you want a decryption key,” Mr. Morgan urged.
