Remote Sales Tax Bills Stalled As High Court Action Looms

Stephen Kranz said it is “crucial” that Congress address whether states have the power to tax online retailers’ interstate sales, “because without it we will have an inconsistent patchwork of colorful state laws.” While urging Congress to approve a uniform tax collection framework, Mr. Kranz called an origin-based system now being considered problematic because “the consumer is not represented politically in the origin jurisdiction.”
