Paul Devinsky, assessing a consortium’s sale of 101 patents to a non-practicing entity (NPE), said that in keeping with a previous transaction between the companies “I do expect the patents to find themselves initially in negotiations and then in the court room.” Mr. Devinsky added that, because of proposed US legislation to restrict NPEs, the seller may “want to ensure that this portfolio does not become a $4.5 billion dust collector. They may think that because people are saying we have to do something about the troll model, we better get something out of this business model now before it becomes more difficult.” Read the full article
