Amandeep Sidhu, in suing the Defense Department on behalf of a Sikh soldier who faces discriminatory testing due to his beard and turban, said that “the US Constitution and the Religious Freedom Restoration Act make it clear that [the soldier] has the right to practice his faith in the military and we are confident that the court will agree.” McDermott has represented the only three other Sikh-Americans allowed to serve without cutting their hair or their beards.
