Diann Smith said that a US Supreme Court lawsuit by 21 states against Delaware and MoneyGram, seeking refunds of up to $400 million in unclaimed MoneyGram checks, “is set to be an interesting battle between the states” and “highlights the problem with Delaware being the unclaimed property behemoth.” Ms. Smith noted that MoneyGram “is stuck in a real Catch-22” because it remitted the property to Delaware, yet the states are demanding money from it.
