Supreme Court Decisions to Spark Benefits Strategy Changes


Todd Solomon said the impact on employers from the Supreme Court’s affirmation of same-sex marriage rights will depend largely on whether the employer’s domestic partner benefits program covers same-sex partners only or both same-sex and opposite-sex partners. Benefits for unmarried partners may be dropped, Mr. Solomon continued, because “many of these programs only exist because same-sex couples have traditionally been denied the right to marry, and even when they have had the right to marry, those marriages have not been recognized everywhere.” Read the full article
