Miller Baker, co-head of McDermott’s appellate practice, said that “strategic thinking and spotting issues that can be exploited” set the firm apart from others. Although McDermott had notable successes in the Supreme Court (such as Bobby Burchfield’s amicus argument for incoming Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell in McCutcheon v. Federal Election Commission), Mr. Baker noted that “we just have a wide range of things going on in addition to the work in the Supreme Court,” including landmark cases in the Federal and Second circuits.
