M. Todd Welty, Laura Gavioli and Mark Thomas, described as “a trio of powerhouse litigators,” joined McDermott as partners who will strengthen the Firm’s position as one of the few go-to tax groups for bet-the-company tax controversies. Their move from another major global law firm follows the additions of Thomas Young (who developed a strong reputation as an international tax expert as a senior manager for a Big Four accounting firm) and Leigh-Alexandra Basha (who formerly headed the international private client practice of another major law firm).
