Three McDermott Partners Nationally Recognized as “Rising Stars”

Overview

NEW YORK AND WASHINGTON DC (April 8, 2015) – International law firm McDermott Will & Emery LLP is delighted to announce that three of its partners have been named “Rising Stars” in Law360’s annual list recognizing a select group of lawyers under the age of 40. The three McDermott attorneys selected for this prestigious list are Government Strategies partner James Kim; Health Industry Advisory partner Anne Hance; and State and Local Tax partner Lindsay LaCava.

Each year, Law360 celebrates a select group of attorneys under the age of 40 in twenty-nine different practice areas whose impressive legal accomplishments belie their age. This year, Law360 received a record 1,200 submissions and only selected 144 attorneys for the list – with three of those being from McDermott, Will & Emery.

McDermott and its partners have the great honor of being recognized in three different practice areas, demonstrating the wide-ranging strength of the Firm’s young talent. “We are so proud of these bright, young partners who have been recognized so deservingly as ‘Rising Stars,’” said Jeffrey E. Stone, co-chair of McDermott Will & Emery. “We would like to congratulate them as they continue to make great strides in each of their respective practice areas.”

“It is a great pleasure to see so many of our young lawyers being recognized for their outstanding hard work and dedication,” added Peter J. Sacripanti, co-chair of McDermott Will & Emery. “These ‘Rising Stars’ represent the future of McDermott and, in the tradition of this Firm, we will continue to honor their contributions and support their continued development and growth.”

James Kim was selected as one of only six young attorneys to receive “Rising Star” recognition for his work in the Government Contracts arena. Mr. Kim has flourished in his role as a primary Government Contracts subject-matter expert within the Firm. He has successfully litigated bid protest actions before the Government Accountability Office (GAO) as well as the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, and he has experience representing government contractors in civil and criminal government investigations involving the False Claims Act, fraud, Procurement Integrity Act, and the Anti-Kickback Act. Mr. Kim is also a registered lobbyist who represents clients primarily in dealing with the Intelligence and Defense communities, particularly with regard to development of advanced technologies for use in cybersecurity defense and data processing capabilities.

Anne Hance, a partner in the Health Industry Advisory Practice Group and co-chair of the firm’s Insurance/Payors Affinity Group, was one of only five young attorneys to be recognized as a “Rising Star” in the Health practice area. Ms. Hance is a leader in helping clients and stakeholders deal with the regulatory changes reshaping the health insurance industry and resulting transactional and operational opportunities. Ms. Hance is distinguished by her uniquely diverse and sophisticated involvement in managed care-related legal matters that transcend basic regulatory compliance, facilitating significant industry transactions by providing deal-focused regulatory guidance, structuring multi-million dollar administrative service agreements for health plans, and serving as a high-profile leadership voice on managed care issues in the media and in industry organizations.

Lindsay LaCava was among only five other attorneys to be recognized on this year’s list in the Tax category. Ms. LaCava is nationally recognized as a leading authority on state and local tax (SALT) issues as a result of her litigation track record, including three victories before the New York State Division of Tax Appeals, her advisory and legislative work and her many contributions to advancing practitioners’ understanding of state and local tax law. In addition to speaking around the country for organizations such as Tax Executives Institute, the Council on State Taxation, and BNA, Ms. LaCava devotes considerable time to authoring articles, reports and white papers to further advance an understanding of the complexities of state and local tax law.
