Bobbi Bierhals said it is difficult to compare pay figures for top leaders of family offices, because aspects of the job merit what she called “combat pay.” Ms. Bierhals explained that family office CEOs usually play a very personal role, acting as advisers and sometimes mediating family disputes, and it is difficult to determine how much that is worth.
