Trademarking DC’s Coolness


Joanne Ludovici commented on how a trademark filing for “DC Cool” by Destination DC, the capital’s travel and tourism organization, “caught our eye” at the same time Forbes magazine ran a story on Washington, DC as “America’s Coolest City.” Ms. Ludovici noted that the trademark application has not been perfected even though it is being used for tourism services. “I wonder about this as a trademark lawyer, only because, if someone else takes it up after all this publicity, there could be a cybersquatting issue,” she said, adding “if you have not perfected the registration, it’s easy to do.”
