Transgender Employees Seeking Greater Workplace Protection


Lisa Linsky said the fact that transgender employees lack explicit protection against workplace discrimination in 31 states “tells us that transgender individuals need legal protection in the workplace. Without such protections, they run the risk of losing their jobs and their livelihoods. We have a long way to go before LGBT people have full equality under the law.” By contrast, Ms. Linsky started McDermott’s LGBT program in 2005; in 2008 the Firm offered short-term disability leave for counseling or hormone therapy, and extended health insurance coverage to gender reassignment surgery in 2011.
