Stephen Ryan said that, without trust as one of the most important qualities in the attorney-client relationship, trying to convince a client in high-profile litigation to tone down public rhetoric or refrain from commenting comes off as insincere. “It’s a matter of asking if [the client] really, upon reflection, would do that again,” Mr. Ryan suggested. “But you have to be a trusted adviser to someone to raise that point.”
