Raphael Lupo, in his capacity as Special Master for a Maryland federal court, made an initial ruling that a technology company’s patents on a mobile interface and managing XML documents represented a “highly specialized idea” and were eligible for protection under Section 101. The court subsequently cited more recent case law in reversing the recommendation.
