McDermott was one of two major law firms that advised nonprofit UNC Health Care on a complicated proposed healthcare business combination with Atrium Health. Ultimately the deal fell apart because it would have required UNC Health Care, a state-owned asset, to cede control to the larger partner, Atrium.
