Linda Doyle, commenting on the murders of two TV news staffers by a disgruntled former coworker, said employers must do all they can to avoid such violent situations by using an “aggressive amount of due diligence” when hiring and alerting authorities to possible danger. “I think that HR needs to be good at anticipating and managing these worst-case scenarios. Firing someone and shutting your doors isn’t enough,” Ms. Doyle noted, adding that an HR department “really needs to step up” in training managers to recognize and deal with potential problems.
