James Moran who represented Northern Virginia in Congress for 24 years before joining McDermott, said that several members of Congress were “perhaps not knowing the entire background” when they wrote the Secretary of the Interior criticizing the efforts of a Virginia Indian tribe to receive federal recognition. Mr. Moran has long supported federal recognition for Virginia’s Indian tribes, and noted that in this instance “the principal opposition now is pure dollars and cents” related to casino gaming.
