Overview
Purnima Boominathan* is an accomplished healthcare and corporate attorney with significant experience as in-house general and senior counsel to venture-backed and public companies providing business-to-business services in the digital health space. She has particular experience facilitating the delivery of telemedicine, at-home laboratory services and in-home healthcare.
Purnima works closely with boards of directors, senior executives and investors to develop and implement effective business and legal strategies while proactively identifying and mitigating regulatory, financial, commercial and product risks. Over the course of her career, she has led legal, compliance, human resources and data-security teams focused on promoting robust growth in a highly competitive and regulated healthcare marketplace.
Purnima provides broad-ranging counsel on healthcare mergers, acquisitions, investments and joint ventures; negotiates complex commercial and technology contracts and agreements; represents clients in government-relations matters; and advises on privacy, corporate governance, and compliance with HIPAA, HITRUST, HITECH, CLIA, CCPA, the Anti-Kickback Statute, Stark, securities, and other federal and state laws and regulations, as well as foreign statutes such as the EU GDPR.
Prior to entering the private sector, Purnima held a series of key leadership roles at the US Department of Veterans Affairs. During her more than a decade at the VA, she served as an appellate attorney, deputy ethics official and counsel to the Strategic Partnership Team, where she was responsible for negotiating agreements between the department, private corporations and nonprofits, with the goal of enhancing services to veterans. She has litigated more than 150 appeals before the US Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims.
While in law school, Purnima served as a judicial extern for the Honorable James Larson of the US District Court for the Northern District of California.
