Dr. Sabine Konrad focuses her practice on international dispute resolution, with an emphasis on commercial international arbitration and public international law. She advises investors and governments in matters of investment protection. Sabine has experience representing clients in a broad range of industries, including energy and infrastructure. She has represented clients in cases across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Latin American and Asia. In addition, she acts as arbitrator in investment treaty arbitration and international commercial arbitration cases. She has experience as sole arbitrator, tribunal president and co-arbitrator.
Since 2007 Sabine has been a member of the Panel of Arbitrators of the World Bank’s International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) (appointment by the Federal Republic of Germany). She is a member of the roster of arbitrators of the International Development Law Organization (IDLO), the list of practitioners of the Vienna International Arbitral Centre (VIAC), the Panel of Arbitrators and the Panel of Mediators of the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC), the Panel of Arbitrators of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) as well as the Panel of Arbitrators of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Center (HKIAC). She was also appointed by the president of SIAC to serve as a member of its Users Council.
Sabine also founded the Frankfurt International Arbitration Moot Court, the leading international moot court in the investment treaty field. In 2005, she was involved in setting up the Frankfurt International Arbitration Center, a cooperation facility of ICSID for investment treaty arbitrations in Germany.
Represented a German investor in a United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) arbitration with the Kingdom of Thailand under the applicable BIT; the arbitration was the very first treaty arbitration in Thailand’s history
Representing an Asian oil company in ICC proceedings against a national oil company in Latin America
Acting for an Asian subsidiary of a US company in an ICC arbitration seated in Switzerland in a dispute concerning a Licensing Agreement under US law; parallel proceedings in US federal and Pakistani courts are pending
