Laurence Rogers focuses his practice on all aspects of real estate finance. He is highly experienced in investment and development transactions as well as syndicated and bilateral deals. He has acted for a range of borrowers and lenders, both senior, mezzanine and equity. Laurence handles all real estate finance aspects of origination and refinancing as well as the real estate finance aspects of restructuring. He advises on all major property asset classes and across a number of sectors including healthcare, hotel and leisure, commercial, retail and student accommodation. Laurence handles both UK transactions and cross-border deals in Europe and Asia and he is particularly active on financing for private equity real estate transactions and acting for alternative lenders.


  • Acted for Sequoia in relation to the real estate aspects of a mezzanine financing deal, in respect of the acquisition of 23 UK-based care homes. This included real estate advice in relation to a sale and leaseback of the portfolio to a long-term income fund, as part of the overall funding for the acquisition. Also subsequently advising this client on the real estate aspects of various other financing transactions
  • Advising the Soller Group in relation to its acquisition of a large London office building, including tax and structuring advice in respect of the related sale and leaseback of the property to a long-term income fund. Subsequently advising Soller on its occupational letting of the whole building to WeWork
  • Acting for Yianis in relation to its refinancing of the Riverside Plaza Hotel, Canary Wharf
  • Advised lender client Resolution Finance in relation to the refinancing of a care home portfolio for approximately £20m; real estate advice included detailed title review, and construction report
  • Acted for a consortium of South Korean institutional investors on the financing of their purchase of a long leasehold interest in Tesco’s distribution centre at Avonmouth for £71.4 million from NFU Mutual Insurance Society. Also acted upon the financing of their acquisition of a Jersey Property Unit Trust owning the freehold interest in Accolade Park, Bristol for £62 million for South Korean institutions*
  • Advised Oxford Properties (the real estate arm of OMERS pension fund) on their joint venture refinancing of Watermark Place, 1 Angel Lane, London*
  • Advised Tishman Speyer on their financing of the acquisition of 100 New Oxford Street*
  • Advised Round Hill Capital on their senior and mezzanine financing of a purchase of a student housing portfolio from Blackstone comprising 2526 beds across student sites in Kings Cross, Notting Hill and Spitalfields*
  • Advised Access Self Storage (and associated group companies) on its £250 million refinancing of long-term debt (originally provided by five different lenders but refinanced by two: HSBC and the Prudential)*
  • Advised Starwood Capital on their financing of the acquisition of the Holiday Inn, Manchester*
  • Advised HIG Capital on their mezzanine financing of the construction of two properties in Germany*
