Overview
Lisa P. Rumin focuses her practice on antitrust, regulatory and litigation matters. She assists clients across a variety of industries and has represented numerous clients in the healthcare, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology industries. Lisa advises clients on mergers and acquisitions, including obtaining clearance from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and Department of Justice (DOJ), as well as counsels clients on issues regarding antitrust compliance, pricing, and distribution. She also counsels clients on cartel prosecutions and defenses, including government investigations and the initiation and defense of civil class action litigation. Lisa is experienced in areas of e-discovery, document review and production for investigations before the FTC, DOJ and state attorneys general office.
In addition to her antitrust and competition work, Lisa maintains an active pro bono practice. She has represented clients in asylum, sexual harassment and employment discrimination matters, as well as assisted Lawyers Without Borders on projects aimed at strengthening legal training and enforcement in various countries.
While in law school, Lisa was the notes and comments editor for the Wake Forest Law Review. She served as a judicial intern to the Honorable Calvin E. Murphy in the North Carolina Business Court.
Results
- Antitrust counsel to Mountain States Health Alliance in obtaining, over FTC staff opposition, approvals with antitrust immunity from Tennessee and Virginia for merger with Wellmont Health System
- Represented several hospital systems in a Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and state attorney general merger investigations including in New York, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia
- Obtained a dismissal for Hitachi Koki Co., Ltd. in an antitrust suit, alleging a group refusal to license intellectual property and assertion of unlawful conduct related to standards setting activities (SD3, LLC, et al. v. Black & Decker ((US), Inc.)
- Counseled a generic pharmaceuticals company in its acquisition of an independent pharmaceutical company and in obtaining regulatory clearance from the FTC
- Defending pharmaceutical manufacturer in investigations by DOJ, FTC, Congress, and state attorneys general
- Defending an automotive parts manufacturer in global government investigations and complex civil class action litigation
- Counseled innovator and generic pharmaceutical companies on numerous potential acquisitions, as well as antitrust issues concerning product hopping, biologics and biosimilars, and the Robinson-Patman Act
- Counseled clients on potential acquisitions and divestitures in the cement and aggregates, aerospace and defense, and consumer products industries
- Defending a physician organization in a nonpublic FTC investigation into a consummated merger
- Advising a health system on state-action antitrust immunity defense and related merger issues
