Overview
Peter John Sacripanti is Chairman Emeritus and a partner of the international law firm of McDermott Will & Emery. From 2009 to 2016, he served as chairman of the Firm’s Executive Committee.
Peter concentrates on strategic business advice and disputes. He has advised boards of directors and corporations on various matters including activists campaigns, whistleblower accusations, bankruptcy trust and commercial disputes, investigations and mass tort allegations. He is particularly experienced in the issues that confront SAAS companies and has been deeply involved in companies that focus on SAAS security, remote working environments, communications and collaboration. Ranked among the country’s top lawyers by Chambers USA, Peter began his career as a federal prosecutor with the United States Department of Justice. He is known for his creative and practical business oriented advice. Peter also has a reputation of being an aggressive litigator. The General Counsel of a Fortune 50 company once remarked, “If you’re going to have a fight, he is your guy.”
Results
- Instrumental in developing an unprecedented legal strategy that utilized the Bankruptcy Code to restrain the prosecution of more than 200,000 asbestos-related claims against a Fortune 500 company
- Served as liaison counsel to the petroleum industry and successfully defeated class certification in In re Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether (“MTBE”) Products Liability Litigation, a multi-district putative class action in the Southern District of New York
- Representing former CEO of Fortune 100 Company in defense of direct action and derivative claims alleging breach of duty of loyalty in connection with CEO’s negotiation of a merger transaction; succeeded in obtaining dismissal of derivative claim
- Led a team that obtained summary judgment for a Fortune 500 technology company on all claims in a purported whistleblower action brought by a former tax counsel from its legal department
- Represented a leading global satellite services company in a commercial dispute with rivals involving transmission signal interference
