Working Mother Honors McDermott As One Of The “Best Law Firms For Women”

Overview

International law firm McDermott Will & Emery has been recognized by Working Mother magazine as one of the “Best Law Firms for Women.” The recognition honors firms that utilize best practices in finding, retaining, promoting and developing women lawyers. This is the sixth year that McDermott has been included.

“We are honored to be recognized again for our long-standing commitment to creating a workplace that supports and celebrates working women,” said Jennifer Mikulina, chair of McDermott’s Gender Diversity Committee. “We strive to progressively enhance McDermott’s diverse structure so that every member of our incredible team can thrive here, regardless of their race, religion or gender.”

“Law firms on this year’s list were better prepared to respond to the effects of the pandemic because of their continued support of flextime and remote work for working parents and caregivers,” said Subha V. Barry, president of Working Mother Media. “We are proud to recognize their resilience and steadfast commitment to supporting gender equality.”

McDermott is dedicated to implementing comprehensive policies and programs to recruit, support and promote women lawyers. These efforts have been consistently recognized by top publications and organizations, including recognition as a top-10 law firm for gender equality by Yale Law Women and earning a 100 percent rating for the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index.

McDermott offers several targeted coaching and mentoring programs for women lawyers, including a one-on-one Business Development Initiative Coaching Program. McDermott also regularly hosts learning and networking events designed to help women achieve success throughout their careers, foster connections and provide opportunities to freely discuss the unique challenges faced by women in the legal profession.

The 60 law firms on Working Mother’s 2020 “Best Law Firms for Women” were required to answer more than 300 questions pertaining to schedule flexibility, paid time off, parental leave and development and retention of women. The full list is available here.
