Announcing Launch of “McDermott Will & Emery Scholarship” at New York University School of Law

Overview

NEW YORK (May 15, 2017) — International law firm McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce the launch of the “McDermott Will & Emery Scholarship” at the New York University School of Law (NYU Law). The new scholarship program is dedicated to supporting NYU Law students interested in developing a focus in estate planning, including all legal and tax issues that arise with the ownership, management and transmission of wealth and private businesses.

The program is to be administered through NYU Law and will award one $10,000 scholarship each year to one exceptional LLM student in the Graduate Tax Program, who is concentrating his or her studies in the estate planning field. The scholarship will be a merit-based scholarship, awarded on the basis of academic excellence and potential to make significant contributions in the estate planning field. Recipients will be expected to produce a publishable piece on a topic related to estate planning during their academic year and will be encouraged to submit the paper to premier competitions available to graduate law students, including: the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, Mary Moers Wenig Student Writing Competition, or the Tannenwald Foundation for Excellence in Tax Annual Writing Competition.

For over 70 years, NYU’s Graduate Tax Program has produced many of the best and the brightest tax practitioners, academics and government leaders, nationally and internationally. The NYU Graduate Tax Program is widely viewed as the preeminent program of its kind and has been ranked #1 in the area of Taxation by US News & World Report since 1992, the year the rankings began. The graduate tax faculty includes several of the country’s leading academic figures in taxation as well as tax practitioners who combine an extraordinary commitment to teaching with practical knowledge accumulated over years of experience at the most sophisticated levels of tax practice. Alumni of the program hold prominent positions in tax practice, government, the judiciary, and academia.

“Many of our clients have benefited greatly by working with several of our preeminent lawyers who have attended NYU School of Law,” said Carol Harrington, global head of McDermott’s Private Client Practice Group. “We are proud to lend financial support to outstanding students who attend this Program.”
