Eric Zimmerman called it “terribly disappointing, but not at all surprising” that new Medicare appeals to administrative law judges will be suspended for at least two years to facilitate addressing a backlog of pending appeals. Mr. Zimmerman said the “backlog reflects the unhappy confluence of overzealous audits, onerous and ambiguous rules, and inadequate funding for the appeals function,” and he suggested that affected providers complain to their congressional representatives about it.
