Ralph DeJong warned nonprofit hospitals that, because IRS agents are scrutinizing Form 990 returns for evidence of major executive pay jumps, hospital boards or compensation committees should review the returns the same way. “If that’s what the Service is looking at in looking for potential examination issues, there’s no reason why the compensation committee shouldn’t be seeing the same thing and also assessing ‘are we at risk here?’” Mr. DeJong said.
