Illinois AG Wants Limits on Whistleblower Actions

Overview

Catherine Battin, who has represented clients sued in Illinois by a serial sales tax whistleblower, said she was “thrilled and surprised” that the state attorney general urged that whistleblowers not be allowed to act as their own counsel and collect both attorneys’ fees and bounties. The state has “never taken that position in writing, in litigation, or even orally before a court,” Ms. Battin continued, adding that the state Supreme Court would likely show deference for this viewpoint.
