APIs and Information Blocking: What Providers Need to Know

Überblick

Earlier this year, the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) published a final rule (ONC Final Rule) relating to its certification program and the prohibition on information blocking established under the 21st Century Cures Act. The ONC Final Rule includes an assortment of compliance and effective dates, some of which have already occurred and others, including the compliance date for information blocking, are just around the corner.

Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) feature prominently in ONC’s Final Rule and will present both implementation challenges and opportunities for providers. McDermott Will & Emery, along with The Chartis Group, will discuss API requirements, their intersection with the information blocking prohibition of the ONC Final Rule, and actions you and your healthcare organization can take to be prepared. The webinar will also address:

  • What are APIs?
  • How might the newest API requirements impact the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ Promoting Interoperability measures related to patient electronic access?
  • Key API-related dates for EHR developers and their impact on information blocking considerations for providers
  • Practical provider approaches to patient API use
  • Opportunities for providers to leverage the API to interface with third party applications and disparate systems
