Jonathan Ende focuses his practice on privacy and data security matters. He counsels clients on compliance issues concerning state, domestic and foreign privacy and data security regimes, including the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Act, California Consumer Privacy Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, EU General Data Protection Regulation and Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard. Jonathan has advised companies across industries, including in the healthcare, insurance, manufacturing, information security, financial technology, professional services and retail sectors. He has experience in contract drafting and negotiation, cyber incident response, M&A risk analysis and development of internal privacy and cybersecurity programs.
Jonathan also has experience advising clients on merger clearance and antitrust compliance. He has helped clients navigate merger investigations conducted by the FTC and Department of Justice (DOJ). He has also represented clients in antitrust litigation before federal courts.
Prior to joining McDermott, Jonathan served as an intern at the FTC and at the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia. He also worked as a senior research assistant at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, taught English to high school students in Japan and served as an intern with multiple US Senate offices. During law school, Jonathan sat on the editorial board of the Virginia Law and Business Review, and participated in pro bono projects led by the Innocence Project.
