COVID-19 – The Latest German Laws and their Impact on Nursing Care Providers

In an expedited proceeding which took place last week, the German Parliament enacted several new laws in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Some of them are of particular importance for nursing care providers. The laws will, inter alia, lower the health risk for care home residents and people who need ambulant nursing care, take the pressure off nursing staff by permitting providers to reallocate personnel and allow temporary recruitment of additional trained personnel with eased qualification requirements. Furthermore, nursing care providers will receive additional financial support as quickly as possible.

This article gives an overview of the new laws (in force since March 27 2020) which are of particular relevance for nursing care homes assessing their impact by considering the COVID-19 induced measures and regulations already in force in the nursing care sector.
