Darren Azman and Timothy Walsh were among the co-authors of this article that reviewed more than 70 financially distressed US hospitals which used conventional management techniques to stabilize and rehabilitate themselves and avoid bankruptcy. The authors concluded that “several levers used by financially distressed hospitals to avoid bankruptcy often are ineffective if used as blunt instruments. No lever should be considered in isolation without understanding its interdependencies with other metrics.”
