Banks Brown and Audrey Lu wrote this bylined article about the new Internet booking platforms that facilitate the short-term transient rental of private homes and apartments. Because such platforms argue they are mere websites, they “contend that they need not spend the money necessary to comply with the [guest safety] rules that operate in the market they have chosen to compete in,” the authors wrote, adding that their profitability “is at least partially (and, perhaps, wholly) due to that factor, rather than to any innovation.” Read the full article.
