Carl Fleming Appointed to the Biden Administration’s Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Advisory Committee

Overview

International law firm McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce Washington, DC-based renewable energy partner Carl Fleming has been appointed to the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Advisory Committee (REEEAC) under the Biden Administration. In this role, Carl will advise the Secretary of Commerce, Gina Raimondo, leveraging his unique private and public sector backgrounds.

“I am honored to serve the United States Government and private sector in this important role to advance the United States’ global competitiveness in wind, solar, energy storage, electric vehicles, and other low carbon solutions,” Carl, said.

Following the Leaders Climate Summit and President Biden’s announcement that the United States would aim to cut its greenhouse gas emissions at least 50 percent below its 2005 levels by 2030, the Secretary of Commerce and the REEEAC will help advance policies that promote the United States’ transition to a sustainable economy.

“We are in the midst of a great acceleration, and I am fortunate to be in a position to advise our clients through the confluence of an escalating global climate emergency, an unprecedented wave of White House support for a transition to a sustainable economy, and decreasing costs for renewable energy, battery storage and electric vehicles,” Carl added. “I am excited to help our clients gain even more of a global and competitive business advantage.”

Carl is a known leader in Washington DC’s renewable energy and policy circles and advises renewable energy transactions globally for leading developers, private equity funds, and Fortune 500 companies. He provides legal, commercial and strategic advice on the development, financing, and purchase and sale of renewable energy projects in wind, solar, energy storage, electric vehicles, and other low carbon solutions. He also advises on climate change policy issues.

Prior to joining McDermott, he served in the Obama administration as an advisor to the White House, senior international attorney, and diplomat for the State Department’s Millennium Challenge Corporation. He has also served as a REEEAC appointee under the Obama and Trump administrations.
