McDermott Expands its Tax Offering with Senior Hire in Italy

Overview

International law firm McDermott Will & Emery announced today the appointment of Diego Avolio as partner in its growing tax practice in Milan. Diego brings extensive experience in advising on local and international corporate tax matters and his arrival will provide a further boost to the Firm’s market-leading tax capabilities.

Diego focuses his practice on international tax mandates. He counsels clients on international transfer pricing as well as on the establishment and management of joint-stock companies. He has assisted numerous multinational groups in complex audits, in agreements with tax authorities on transfer pricing and patent boxes and in tax consulting and litigation.

Diego joins with associate Francesca Moretti, a lawyer with an LL.M. in International Taxation from the University of Amsterdam.

Andrea Tempestini, Head of McDermott’s Italian Tax Practice, commented: “We are very pleased to welcome Diego and Francesca to our team. We remain focused on our goal of providing our clients with a high-quality service while combining the culture of a boutique tax firm with the strength and openness that comes from our international pedigree. These additions fit perfectly into this vision, which we are confident will attract additional talent in the coming months.”

“Along with the rest of the world, Europe is experiencing unprecedented change across its tax landscape,” said Timothy Shuman, Head of McDermott’s US & International Tax Practice. “As our clients navigate their way through a myriad of complex and evolving tax considerations, we are delighted to add Diego’s substantial experience to our comprehensive tax services.”

Giancarlo Castorino, Head of McDermott’s Milan Office added, “Diego has an excellent skillset which will further complement our existing capabilities and help equip our clients with sound tax strategies to achieve growth in the current challenging business environment.”

Diego is a certified public accountant and is a statutory auditor and independent auditor for a number of companies. He authored numerous publications on tax matters and is a lecturer in master’s degree programs, including universities, as well as in Guardia di Finanza’s Tax Police School.

As McDermott continues to expand its leading global tax practice, this announcement follows last year’s high-profile tax hires of partners Kevin Cummings in London,  Jeff Maydew and Meaghan A. Wolfe in Chicago,  Michael W. Hardgrove in Boston and Dominika Korytek in San Francisco.
