Joel Chefitz said it would be a mistake for the NCAA to seek relief in Congress from a district court ruling that its treatment of amateur athletes violates the antitrust laws. “That’s not a way to develop a coherent body of competition law. That’s what the courts are for,” Mr. Chefitz noted. He added, however, that the district court “gave too short shrift to the principle that there are benefits to amateurism among student athletes.”
