Overview
Benjamin Casten is a Discovery Consultant whose focus is on providing custom solutions for complex eDiscovery matters. Benjamin works with legal teams and clients to develop comprehensive discovery plans that leverage best-in-class technologies to meet critical deadlines, reduce expense, and complement the overall strategy of the case. His deep experience across the spectrum of the Electronic Discovery Reference Model provides legal teams and clients insight and advice on the most important technical and logistical considerations throughout the duration of the discovery phase of a case.
Benjamin collaborates with legal teams to understand and document the ways clients organize data in their everyday practice and identify strategic opportunities to realize substantial cost savings that meet discovery goals and adhere to regulatory guidelines. He develops electronic discovery preservation and collection plans that balance the legal needs of the case with the business considerations of the client and industry standard practices.
Benjamin specializes in developing and implementing sophisticated technologies and protocols that allow case teams to quickly identify the essential information in their cases and reduce the overall cost of eDiscovery. He has significant experience in the use of Technology Assisted Review (predictive coding), and has participated in the design, negotiation, and disclosure of predictive coding and analytics protocols with both civil plaintiffs and government agencies.
Prior to joining McDermott, Benjamin worked for a leading government contractor providing litigation technology and review support to the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission. He has over 20 years of experience in litigation support including at an AmLaw 200 firm where he was involved in implementing an in-house eDiscovery review platform and for a software and services vendor that developed custom discovery solutions for state and federal government agencies and private clients. His background includes designing, implementing, and managing solutions for eDiscovery processing, database design and administration, document imaging and printing, and subjective and objective data capture. Benjamin is a Relativity Certified Administrator.
