Overview
Patrick E. Michaelis represents clients in a broad range of trust and estate matters, with a focus on complex will and trust contests.
Patrick advises clients at every step – from the inception of a dispute through trial and appeal – in cases involving alleged breaches of fiduciary duty, elder abuse, and abuse of disabled persons and their estates and trusts. He represents banks and individuals as guardians, trustees, administrators, and executors in all aspects of trust and estate administration. Patrick also facilitates asset and property purchases and sales for tax minimization and executes updates to estate plans.
As part of his tax litigation practice, Patrick defends high-net-worth clients during ongoing Internal Revenue Service investigations, preparing position statements and handling document review and subsequent preparation of responses as needs arise. He has experience performing large-scale reverse audits to obtain significant sales- and use-tax refunds for clients and working with state taxing authorities to mitigate client tax exposure.
