International law firm McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce the release of AI Law and Business, a new legal treatise exploring the rapidly changing intersection of artificial Intelligence (AI), law, and business. The treatise is published by ALM Law.com Scholar and is co-authored by McDermott partners and co-founders of the firm’s AI cross practice group Jason Krieser and Shawn C. Helms.

AI Law and Business explores how US and international laws are evolving to meet the challenges of AI advancement. The treatise provides legal professionals, executives, and policymakers with a comprehensive analysis across a wide spectrum of legal and regulatory challenges posed by AI adoption.

About the authors:

Jason Krieser, Co-head of McDermott’s Technology & Outsourcing Practice and Co-founder of the firm’s AI Cross-Practice Group is a globally recognized leader in AI, cloud computing, and outsourcing.

“As AI continues to transform industries at an unprecedented pace, legal frameworks must evolve just as quickly to keep up,” said Jason. “We see a fundamental shift in how businesses operate, make decisions, and interact with consumers, and the legal implications are vast. AI Law and Business will help legal and business leaders stay ahead of the curve, not just react to it.”

Shawn C. Helms, Co-head of McDermott’s Technology & Outsourcing Practice and Co-founder of the firm’s AI Cross-Practice Group, specializes in AI, blockchain, digital health, and complex tech transactions.

“AI is not just a technological shift; it’s a legal and ethical inflection point that demands thoughtful leadership,” said Shawn. “From data governance and intellectual property to liability and regulatory compliance, AI is challenging long-standing legal norms. AI Law and Business will equip professionals with the tools, insights, and foresight needed to lead responsibly and strategically in this new era of AI.”

Chris Cyrus, who served as McDermott’s Director of AI Innovation, is also a co-author of the treatise, bringing a unique combination of litigation experience and AI strategy to his perspective on enterprise-wide technology adoption.
