John Lutz Elected Fellow of American College of Tax Counsel

New York (November 14, 2016) – John T. Lutz, co-head of the Firm’s New York office and partner in McDermott’s US & International Tax practice, has been elected a Fellow of the prestigious American College of Tax Counsel.

The Fellows of the American College of Tax Counsel constitute an extraordinary group of America’s very best tax attorneys. Membership is reserved for those leaders who have made an exceptional contribution to their chosen profession. Fellows are nominated for the honor of membership and undergo a rigorous screening process prior to being elected as Fellows of the College.

John advises clients on federal and state taxation, particularly the taxation of structured finance, derivative and structured products. John also counsels clients on matters related to mergers and acquisitions, tax examinations and controversies, insurance products, investment tax credits and US and cross-border securities offerings.

Internationally, John provides advice to banks, insurance companies, investment managers, sponsors and other market participants in a wide variety of investment transactions. During 2013, John served as chief counsel to US Senator Jeff Chiesa.

“We congratulate John on this well-deserved recognition,” said Lowell D. Yoder, head of McDermott’s Tax Practice Group. “Fellowship of the American College of Tax Counsel is an extraordinary distinction reserved for those at the very top of their profession. John is a prime example of the talent we nurture here at McDermott and I am confident he will make an outstanding contribution to the College and its important work.”

John has been recognized by leading industry directories in the US, including repeated listings in The Best Lawyers in America (2012-2017), Super Lawyers (2009-2016) and The Legal 500.

The College is a professional association of tax attorneys that was formed in 1981. Membership in the College is limited to a maximum of 700 tax attorneys across the United States. Among the goals of the College is to “foster excellence” in the practice of tax law and to “provide input by the tax bar into the development of tax laws.”
