Stephen D. Erf focuses his practice on civil rights and labor/employment counseling and litigation, restrictive covenants, wage and hour, union organizing, collective bargaining, employment discrimination, wrongful discharge and leadership transition. He has worked with clients in a wide range of industries, including health care, education, construction, manufacturing, professional services, social services, food products, chemicals and transportation.
Stephen is co-author of a book on labor and employment issues arising in the health care field, and also has contributed articles on such matters as disability discrimination and no-fault insurance to various publications, including the Loyola Law Journal.

- Served as lead counsel and secured a defense judgment against a „stalking horse“ plaintiff in a suit seeking a temporary early retirement supplemental benefit following a reduction in force
- Served as lead counsel and secured a permanent injunction against a former officer who leaked privileged materials and disparaged a former company, including disgorgement of all severance pay
- Negotiated an emergency plant closing and consolidation with a separate plant, including providing „short“ Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notices with payments for deficient notice period
- Coordinated the drafting and adoption of a restrictive covenant enforceable in the United States, China, the United Kingdom, France and Germany
- Served as lead counsel and secured dismissal for nuisance value of a discrimination and retaliation lawsuit upon demonstration that the plaintiff engaged in purposeful destruction of evidence
