McDermott Sees Further Growth of its Corporate & Transactional Capabilities in London

Overview

London (April 18, 2017) – International law firm McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce it has appointed Restructuring & Insolvency partner Alan Gar into its Corporate & Transactional Practice in London.

Alan joins from an international law firm where he was a partner. He focuses on advising retail and investment banks, funds, insolvency practitioners and corporates on restructuring and insolvency matters. He has acted on a number of market leading matters, providing advice on issues of English insolvency law, schemes of arrangement, standstill agreements, as well as the acquisition and enforcement of debt.

Alan has a wealth of experience advising financial institutions, debtors and insolvency practitioner clients on corporate recovery and restructuring mandates. He is admitted as a solicitor in England & Wales and as an attorney in South Africa.

“We are delighted to welcome Alan to our growing team”, said Andrew Vergunst, Head of McDermott’s London office. “His appointment will continue to build upon the positive momentum taking shape in London. Four Corporate & Transactional laterals, Piero Carbone, Michael Holter, Gary Howes and Alicia Videon have recently joined within the past year. Another high-profile partner, Hamid Yunis in Health, joined in September 2016. Adding another quality lateral will enable us to further expand our client offering.”

Mark Davis, Head of the Firm’s Corporate & Transactional practice in London added, “This time last year we announced our commitment to developing our transactions capabilities in London – the task we have been steadily implementing through a spate of lateral hires and the significant broadening of our offering. Ramping up our restructuring capabilities is key to extending our services to clients both here in London, and globally. I believe Alan will be a great addition to our Restructuring & Insolvency team, building upon the arrival of partner Alicia Videon last autumn.”

In a further boost to the growing team, the Firm has also welcomed new transactional Counsel Elisabeth Moseley. Elisabeth focuses on cross-border mergers and acquisitions in the oil & gas and mining sectors. She has extensive experience of advising on share and asset acquisitions and divestments, group reorganisations, corporate finance, private equity investments, production sharing arrangements, joint ventures, joint operating agreements and commercial contracts.

McDermott’s Corporate & Transactional Practice represents business interests around the world, from global corporations and industry-leading companies to privately funded and entrepreneurial driven enterprises, private equity sponsors and the financial institutions that support them. McDermott consistently ranks in the leading league tables, including Mergermarket, Thomson Reuters, Bloomberg and PitchBook. The Corporate & Transactional Practice Group was named “Team of the Year” for Middle Market M&A/Buyouts by The Legal 500 and is highly ranked by Chambers in Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States.
