McDermott Continues Litigation and Dispute Resolution Expansion with Senior Hire in London

Overview

McDermott Will & Emery announced today it has welcomed Michael Darowski as a partner in its London Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice. In response to a surge in demand for sophisticated, international dispute resolution advice, Michael joins a growing team following the appointment of white-collar and investigations partner, Simon Airey, last month.

“Our clients’ businesses are global in nature, the importance of international arbitration as a means of dispute resolution similarly increases,” said David S. Rosenbloom, head of McDermott’s Global Dispute Resolution practice. “We expect this trend to continue and are keen to ensure we are fully able to anticipate and meet our clients’ needs. A dynamic practitioner of Michael’s caliber will further strengthen our international arbitration offering, and our ability to help our clients achieve success in global disputes, whatever the chosen forum.”

Michael focuses his practice on high-value international commercial disputes resolved through arbitration. He has handled disputes involving English and other governing laws, and has acted in arbitrations under the rules of all of the main arbitral institutions. He has been involved in national court proceedings in relation to all aspects of the arbitration process in several jurisdictions, including England, Switzerland, Hong Kong, Cyprus and the British Virgin Islands.

“The international nature of Michael’s practice makes him an excellent fit for our dynamically growing London office, and for the firm as a whole,” said Hamid Yunis, McDermott’s London Managing Partner. “London is one of the world’s main arbitration centers and we are well prepared to serve clients around the globe, across a span of sectors, jurisdictions and complex regulatory landscapes. We are looking forward to drawing on Michael’s arbitration experience to help propel our clients’ businesses and support them with solution-driven results.”

Michael has extensive experience of advising clients in the natural resources, oil and gas, energy, food and beverage, financial, transportation and telecoms sectors. He has arbitrated disputes all around the world and has substantial experience of disputes relating to the CIS and Central Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and the Far East. Michael’s international client base ranges from multinational corporations and financial institutions to wealthy private individuals.

“McDermott is a truly international platform, known for its high-value and high-profile disputes resolution practice bringing transformative outcomes to its clients. I look forward to becoming a part of its global network, working with my clients to avoid disputes or resolve them at an early stage, or, if necessary, to fight fully to protect their interests through the arbitral process,” said Michael.

Michael is the Firm’s most recent Litigation hire, following the addition since March of former US Attorney and Army Ranger Kenji M. Price in Washington DC, former Assistant US Attorney Julian André in Los Angeles and Barrister Simon Airey, who leads Investigations in London.
