McDermott Recognized by Diversity Lab as an Inclusion Blueprint Champion for Intellectual Property

International law firm McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce that it has been named an Inclusion Blueprint Champion for Intellectual Property as part of Diversity Lab’s 2021 Inclusion Blueprint.

McDermott’s Intellectual Property Practice Group has taken major strides to bring innovative ideas that boost Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) throughout the team, Firm and broader legal community. In addition to serving on various Firm diversity subcommittees, McDermott IP lawyers are involved in organizations such as the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association and National Association of Women Lawyers.

“As a result of our individual and collective efforts, we have become a recognized leader in workplace diversity,” William Gaede, Chair of the Firm’s Global IP practice, said. “We are very proud of our IP lawyers for extending this ethos of inclusion throughout their communities.”

While 62 law firms participated in the 2021 Inclusion Blueprint, McDermott was one of 20 firms highlighted for meeting or exceeding the challenging eligibility criteria for the Inclusion Blueprint Champion Awards at the practice group level.

The Inclusion Blueprint Champion award, presented by Diversity Lab, recognizes law firms that are proactively creating and tracking D&I opportunities within firm leadership and practice groups. To be recognized, Champions had to achieve an index score of at least 70 out of 100 across four key indicators:

1. Current diversity representation based on average or above-average thresholds
2. Year-over-year diversity representation progress
3. Diversity representation tracking
4. Meaningful inclusion practices and activities
