McDermott Represents the City of Rock Hill, South Carolina in Chapter 11 Case of GT Real Estate Holdings, LLC

Overview

International law firm McDermott Will & Emery represented the City of Rock Hill, South Carolina in the Chapter 11 case of GT Real Estate Holdings, LLC (GTRE), a subsidiary of Tepper Sports Holding, Inc.

The Chapter 11 case centered around the failed project to develop a mixed-use, pedestrian-friendly community, which was to be anchored by a new headquarters and practice facility for the Carolina Panthers. GTRE acquired land in Rock Hill for the project but halted construction on the project halfway through its completion and shortly thereafter, filed for Chapter 11.

Rock Hill was one of the largest creditors in GTRE’s Chapter 11 case and had a significant interest in the development and disposition of the project site and removal of the partially constructed practice facility. Following months of contentious litigation and negotiations between Rock Hill and GTRE and its affiliates, Rock Hill successfully obtained possession of, and control over, the project site. GTRE’s Chapter  11 plan went effective on December 20, 2022.

The McDermott team was led by Chuck Gibbs and Maris Kandestin and included Eric Seitz, Shelby Perry, Grayson Williams, Sean Hennessy, Mark Meredith, Debbie Green, Chris Whalen, Brigid McCarthy, Kelly Shami and Erica Lang.
