McDermott’s Transactions Practice Surges in Q1 2016 Deal Rankings

Overview

NEW YORK (May 16, 2016) – McDermott Will & Emery was ranked highly in the first quarter of 2016 by top tier league tables for its transactional capabilities. These results demonstrate the Firm’s leading position in mid-and small-cap transactions in mergers & acquisitions and private equity, both in the US and globally.

Most notably, with the first quarter logging one of the slowest starts in private equity deal activity in recent years, McDermott had a banner Q1 2016, ranking 6th in deal count for both US and global buyouts and exits. In M&A, the Firm ranked significantly higher for deal count year-over-year for US Midwest and Europe (climbing 44 spots to the number 5 and 90 spots to number 15, respectively).

“We are proud to be highly ranked once again by the nation’s leading league tables for our strong results in M&A and private equity transactions,” said Ira Coleman, global head of McDermott’s Corporate & Transactional Practice. “This recognition reflects the strong commitment of our transaction lawyers who provide skilled guidance to clients in order to achieve the best outcome possible for any given transaction.”

McDermott focuses on reporting deal activity to the most reputable league tables including Thomson Reuters, Bloomberg and Mergermarket. It is important to note league table criteria vary among the reporting agencies. In addition, rankings do take account of private transactions that cannot be publicly reported; thus, given McDermott’s active private company transactional practice, even these rankings substantially understate McDermott’s positioning in the marketplace for deal value.

Deals are reported to the league tables by the Firm based on information provided by lawyers via McDermott’s Transactions Database and other sources. Deals include work by McDermott’s Transactions, Antitrust, Health and Tax practice groups.
