Sabine Konrad Appointed Arbitrator to Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre

Overview

FRANKFURT/HONG KONG (December 20, 2016) – McDermott Will & Emery’s trial partner, Dr. Sabine Konrad, has been appointed as an Arbitrator to the Panel of Arbitrators of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC).

HKIAC was established in 1985 and is a financially self-sufficient organisation independent from any type of influence or control. The HKIAC Panel of Arbitrators comprises members who have demonstrated particular experience acting as arbitrators. Individuals included on the Panel are senior members of the arbitration community who have been appointed in multiple disputes and have significant experience in award drafting.

Dr. Konrad focuses her practice on international dispute resolution, with an emphasis on commercial international arbitration and public international law. She advises investors and governments in matters of investment protection and also has experience representing clients in a broad range of industries, including energy and infrastructure. In addition, she acts as arbitrator in investment treaty arbitration and international commercial arbitration cases.

“I would like to sincerely congratulate Sabine on this appointment,” said Dr Norbert Schulte, head of McDermott’s German practice. “It is a well-deserved recognition as she is one of top international arbitrators representing the wealth and depth of talent that McDermott attracts as a Firm. We wish her further ongoing successes in her impressive career.”

“I am delighted to see our lawyers recognized by prestigious international arbitration bodies” said Lazar Raynal, global chair of McDermott’s Controversies Practice Group. “Sabine’s appointment by HKIAC is a great testament to the exceptional strength of our global trial capabilities,“ he added.

In 2007 and again in 2013, Dr. Konrad was nominated by the government of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Panel of Arbitrators of the World Bank’s International Center for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID). She is a member of the roster of arbitrators of the International Development Law Organisations (IDLO), the list of practitioners of the Vienna International Arbitral Centre (VIAC), the Panel of Arbitrators and the Panel of Mediators of the Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration (KLRCA), the Panel of Arbitrators of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) and now also the HKIAC Panel of Arbitrators.

Dr. Konrad also founded the Frankfurt International Arbitration Moot Court, the leading international moot court in the investment treaty field. In 2005, she was involved in setting up the Frankfurt International Arbitration Center, a cooperation facility of ICSID for investment treaty arbitrations in Germany.
