McDermott Continues to Strengthen its Global Corporate Offering with a Senior Appointment in London

Overview

International law firm McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce the addition of transactions partner Garrett Hayes in London. Garrett will bolster the Firm’s corporate advisory, M&A and private equity bench with his deep experience in guiding sophisticated foreign and domestic clients on complex transactions.

“Garret’s appointment is a great addition to the team and is in line with our strategy to grow our corporate and private equity offering in London and Europe,” said Harris Siskind, Global Head of McDermott’s Transactions practice. “His telecom and infrastructure M&A practice will also provide notable synergies with our teams in Germany and the US.”

Garrett’s practice focuses on a broad range of cross-border and domestic M&A, corporate advisory and private equity mandates. His practice includes advising on fund raising, strategic investments, and joint ventures, and he has extensive experience in transactions in the telecoms industry, including M&A involving mobile network operators and telecoms infrastructure. He represents private equity sponsors, management teams, and portfolio companies on leveraged buyouts, equity incentive arrangements, restructurings, and exits.

Garrett has had a busy 2022 to date and his notable recent transactions include advising Hanwha Systems Co., Ltd., a shareholder in OneWeb, on the proposed combination of OneWeb with Paris-based satellite operator Eutelsat; eir, Ireland’s leading telecommunications company, on InfraVia Capital Partners’ investment into Fibre Networks Ireland Limited, a company established to accelerate fibre-to-the-home roll-out across Ireland; BaseCamp Group on the €939 million sale of a portfolio of 11 private student and residential accommodation assets to Xior Student Housing NV; Fora management on the merger of Fora and The Office Group, creating the premier flexible workspace company in the UK; and eir on the sale of a majority stake in Tetra Ireland, a provider of secure communications to the Irish emergency services, to Motorola.

Clients recently advised by Garrett include NJJ Group, Strategic Industrial Capital Partners LLP, eir, Salt Mobile, Unigestion and Astorg Partners.

“We are thrilled to welcome Garrett to the Firm and London office. His addition strengthens our M&A offering and widens our sector expertise providing further opportunities across the technology, media and telecom sectors,” said Hamid Yunis, Managing Partner of McDermott’s London office. “Garrett also has impressive international credentials and experience that will continue to advance McDermott’s position in the UK, Europe and globally.”

Garrett commented: “McDermott is well known for its first-rate corporate practice with its strong international focus and its collegiate culture across the Firm. I am excited by the opportunity to be part of the team driving forward the continued growth of its M&A and PE practices.”
